Thanks Xcel Energy for donating $1000 to sponsor Bill Coad, to be our speaker for the November 7th ASHRAE meeting.  Bill is a Past President of ASHRAE and is also an ASHRAE distinguished lecturer.

 

Bill’s after dinner talk will be Energy Considerations in Engineering Design.  Bill will also be presenting a two hour technical session from 2:30 – 4:30 PM titled VAV Design for Improved Indoor air Quality.  Please see my article on the seminar for further details.

 

While I am passing out thanks, I would like to publicly thank Dr. Charles Remund for helping us raise over $1000 for ASHRAE Scholarships. 

 

The November meeting will be our Past Presidents Meeting.  It’s our opportunity to thank them for volunteering their time to serve the members of the SD Chapter.  We will also be presenting our Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

The meeting will also be Membership Night.   Please bring potential members and show them first hand the benefits of joining:  outstanding speakers, local technical seminars, and the chance to network with others in the HVAC industry.

 

See you at the Westward Ho November 7th.  The social hour will begin at 5:15 PM, dinner will be at 6:15 PM and the meeting/program will start at 6:45 PM.

 Technical Seminar–VAV Design for Improved Indoor air Quality

Bill Coad, ASHRAE Past President and ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer will be speaking on VAV Design for Improved Indoor air Quality from 2:30 – 4:30 PM on Wednesday November 7 at the Westward Ho.  Registration will be from 2:15 – 2:30 PM. 

 

Cost for the technical session is $50 except for students who may attend for free.  This is a fund raiser for ASHRAE research so please make your check out to ASHRAE Research.  Documentation will be provided for those seeking credit for PDH hours.

The Ethics and Economics of Energy Conservation

William J. Coad, President of Coad Engineering Enterprises is a consulting principal and past Chairman/CEO of The McClure Corporation (dba McClure Engineering Associates). Mr. Coad was President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in 2001-2002. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in 1957.  Prior to forming Coad Engineering Enterprises, Inc., he had been with McClure Engineering Associates, a Mechanical/Electrical Consulting Firm, for 40 years (following five years as a design engineer, estimator, and corporate officer of a mechanical contracting company).  He is a registered professional engineer in 38 states. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Mestek Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Exergen Corporation of Watertown, Massachusetts, and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) of Washington D.C.

As an educator, Mr. Coad served as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering for 12 years at Washington University in St. Louis. For 17 years he was an Affiliate Professor at Washington University, teaching graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and serving as a thesis advisor in building environmental systems design.

William Coad authored "Energy Engineering and Management for Building Systems," published by Van Nostrand Reinhold, and is a co-author of "Principles of Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning" published by ASHRAE.  He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of HPAC Engineering Magazine He has served on the St. Louis Professional Code Committee, and the Missouri State Building Code Steering Committee. Mr. Coad has been Chairman of the Building Technology Advisory Committee to the Missouri Energy Agency, a member of the Building and Grounds Committee of the Washington University Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, and the Energy Conservation Committee of the American Consulting Engineer's Council.

 


 

Technology Awards Program

We would like to nominate a project/design concept for the Technology Award for the South Dakota Chapter this year.   If you have a project/design concept in mind please contact Rob Marshall or Kasey Abbott.  

The purpose of the ASHRAE Technology Awards program is to:

  1. Recognize ASHRAE members who design and/or conceive innovative technological concepts that are proven through actual operating data;
  2. Communicate innovative systems designs to other ASHRAE members;
  3. Highlight technological achievements of ASHRAE to others, including associated professionals and societies worldwide, as well as building and facility owners.

Each year the Society may present awards in seven categories: Commercial Buildings (New and Existing); Institutional Buildings (New and Existing); Health Care Facilities (New and Existing); Industrial Facilities or Processes (New and Existing); Public Assembly (New and Existing); Residential (New and Existing); Alternative or Renewable Energy Use.
